'Everesting' the Pennines
Having set up this website to document our fundraising 3 Peaks Cycle Challenge in 2006 (which helped raise £11,000),10 years on and explaining our latest ‘Everesting’ challenge to our web team, they thought it would be good place to share the experience and fundraising of our 2016 Everesting challenge.
In short, Everesting requires a cyclist to acquire a vertical ascent in a single ride equivalent to the height of Mount Everest. You must do it in a single outing and you must do it on the same hill or mountain. The shorter and less precipitous the incline, the more repetitions you must perform to achieve the goal. Read more about it here.
The 'Everesting' challenge for our team (opposite left to right - Tim Bradley, Adrian Murphy & Chris Talks) involves riding up and down a 1.85 mile climb on Blackstone Edge on the Pennines. It is just shy of 640 feet each time; that equates to 170 miles and 29,300 feet of climbing & descending. A serious undertaking NOT to be taken lightly!!
Trying not to look too worried at the prospect of such a daunting challenge, Tim Bradley covers the mind-set of the team "It is probably against my 'cycling OCD' not to reach 30,000 feet and if that is possible there is also the chance to join "The High Rouleurs Society" - 10,000 mtrs/32,800 feet in a single ride...close on 200 miles"

Why are the team putting themselves through this?
The end game is to raise awareness for Melanoma UK and further the fundraising for Sarah Swindells and her vital TILs treatment, the cost of which is £70,000!!!
