Charity & Sponsors

As much as our challenge was about achieving personal goals, it was also about raising money for a very worthwhile cause. Our chosen charity is BASIC (Brain and Spinal Injury Charity). It is our ambition to raise £25,000 through an on-going programme of fundraising events, starting with the 3 Peaks Cycle Challenge.

Why BASIC?

Unexpectedly, in November 2004, Tim suffered a brain haemorrhage. As a normally very fit and active individual, this clearly had a hugely detrimental effect on him physically and emotionally, as well as impacting a great extent on his family, friends and colleagues.

Having received treatment at the main Neurological Unit of Hope Hospital in Salford, Manchester, and after a period of recuperation and rehabilitation, gladly Tim made a full recovery. It is due to the care and attention Tim received whilst undergoing his treatment, he now aims to raise funds for ‘BASIC’.

‘BASIC’ largely aid research into brain and spinal injuries and trauma, as well as helping to provide all-important state-of-the-art equipment required in the everyday treatment to save the lives of people suffering such trauma, which like Tim discovered, any one of us can become vulnerable to, regardless of age or health. Our request is for you to boost the appeal by pledging your support for something so very close to home, and which could be so very close to any one of us. Any commitment of a monetary pledge for ‘BASIC’ would help immensely.  Since we have completed the 3PCC you can still support this fantastic cause by visting www.basiccharity.org.uk

Sponsorship & Support

In undertaking 3PCC we were supported by many individuals and comapnies. Swift Leisure Group very kindly donated the use of a Kontiki 660 motorhome for the trip. This provided a completely self-sufficient support base along the way. Tim & Peter's wives piloted the vehicle, providing close communication, food and drink, clothing and providing them a place to sleep. Andrew Stanley of Rebound Clinic (Settle, N.Yorkshire) has aided with injury diagnoses and correction for both Tim and Peter and continues to advise on remaining injury-free. (A number of other people - you know who you are! - have put forward their advice and opinions in several different ways, although both Tim and Peter have chosen to ignore them). Leisure Lakes Bikes are helping provide back-up support by means of spares and repairs for any unseen eventualities along the way.
